Weekly workplace humor #10

Rule #10 - Have 2 Jackets

If you work in a big open office, always leave a spare jacket draped over the back of your seat. This gives the impression that you are still on the premises. The second jacket should be worn while swanning around elsewhere.

Sacramento's Moving Up

I received the June issue of Interior Design, one of my favorite design magazines, and began my usual tradition of devouring it from cover to cover. I love this magazine because it brings innovative and fresh designs from all corners of the world right to my doorstep. With that being said, I was pleasantly surprised when I turned to page 124 and was greeted with images of a restaurant covered in French cottage décor and weathered shutters… that’s right, it was Ella Dining Room & Bar in our very own downtown Sacramento. And happily enough, it doesn’t stop there! Another prestigious design magazine, Hospitality Design, has honored Ella in their most recent awards issue as the winner of the “Hospitality Debut” category.
I think it is exciting that our community is being recognized as having innovative and novel design and I hope to see more of these accolades in the near future… especially if they mention Williams + Paddon and have my name in bold as the designer of record:)

I have both magazines at my desk so please feel free to stop on by and check them out!

We often hear about great joy and satisfaction in the world of architecture. It’s the beauty and artistry of the work and the delight one receives by experiencing its space, form and function. Now transfer that concept to the automobile. Who doesn’t find joy imagining themselves jaunting around in a rare gem of an automobile that might fall under the “not practical” or “out of my budget” list? No doubt we all have our favorites, but Brian W. and his father take it a step further by sharing a tradition and passion for resurrecting, refining and polishing the form, function and beauty of their automobiles from a bygone era. Their joy and satisfaction becomes the delight of others.

'Bike There' by Google

The Google Maps Team has options such as 'Drive There' and 'Take Public Transit' options when creating directions to your destination. There is a petition to create a 'Bike There' option as well. The feature would take into account actual bicycle lanes from the locality being mapped, and it would automatically plan a route for a bicyclist, possibly even providing the cyclist options for either the most direct route, or the most bicycle-friendly (safest) route. Just follow the link below, sign the petition, and cross your fingers Google is listening to it's cycling users.

Just for Laughs

Wii Rock Band

Many of you probably have heard the Williams + Paddon Rock Band jam sessions at lunch and Friday afternoons. We have uncovered a great deal of new talent in the office. Who would have ever guessed that Trish could play Boston’s, “Foreplay/Long Time” on an electric guitar, or that Naaz could play the drums to Bon Jovi’s, “Wanted Dead or Alive?” In fact we’ve discovered many would be rock stars. Perhaps one of the most unforgettable performances came from Brian Whitmore wailing on the mic to Weezer’s, “Say it Ain’t So.” And I am certain that there will be many other legendary acts going forward. Everyone is welcome to join in regardless of musical talent or ability. Or if you would just like some very good cheap entertainment you should check it out. We have a wide range of songs to choose from so most people can find something that they like. And If enough people from the office get into it I think we will come to be known as Williams + Paddon Architects // Planners // ROCK STARS!!!!

A sold out crowd to hear Amber's legendary vocals, with Tye's flawless guitar riffs, Bill's not-so-flawless bass playing and B-whit's steady beat on the drums.
Tye Brown rocking out on his mini-Fender Stratocaster

This band had Paul on drums, The Man Taylor plucking the base, Anda providing "mellow smooth" vocals, Joseph wailing on lead guitar and manager Tye orchestrating the entire event.
