Architect Barbie
According to Mattel, the Barbie Architect is "ready to tackle the daily responsibilities of a real architect in or out of the office... wearing an architecturally inspired dress showcasing a city skyline, Barbie doll’s outfit is symmetrically stylish with bold colors and clean lines. In designing this doll, Barbie partnered with members of the American Institute of Architects to keep Barbie I Can Be… Architect doll authentic to the career."
If Mattel was really in touch with the world of an architect they would have provided her with a few more useful items. Perhaps trading the drawing tube for a laptop so she could answer the 400 emails she'd get every day. Or a blue tooth headset so she can multitask and talk on the phone while answering all those emails. No need for the hard hat either... with the endless submittals, changes to the documents, revisions on top of revisions during construction she would never have time to visit the construction site anyway. In that case, the lovely dress and high heels are perfectly suitable for someone confined to a 6x8 cubicle. The one pair of glasses should be 3. One daily use, one to see your computer screen and another to read the tiny print on the half sized drawings. That's a little more real but not nearly as fun. At least Ken now has a "Dream House" to be proud of...

Cargoshell

No Bag, No Problem
As is typical when you make a retail purchase you usually get a huge bag with the stores logo on it to carry your goods. I was pleasantly surprised that when purchasing this particular pair of shoes that they did not put the box in a bag. They simply attached a small rope handle. One might say this is genius, I say it's common sense...and I also say I wish I would have thought of it!- Brian

A Different Kind of Computer Screen
Arizona State University's Flexible Display Center and HP recently announced a prototype of a flexible lightweight computer screen that stands to revolutionize computers and electronic devices. These new computer screens are printed onto plastic sheets that are virtually indestructible, use less energy and are less costly to produce than conventional screens. These new displays could potentially use up to 90% less material by volume to produce as well. (info from Inhabitat.com)

Self-Sustainable Chair
Seriously???...someone actually thought this was a good idea? I definitely give the designer major kudos for attempting to think outside the box but this might be just a bit too much. This cute little article of clothing is billed as a wearable piece of furniture which is a dress where the butt inflates into a chair through pumps in the shoes. Artist Joo Yuon Paek hopes the provocative art piece will “transform the humdrum experiences produced by routine walking commutes into an amusing interactive performance.” I suppose the walk to work is just too taxing for some. Is it just me or does this dress look more like and oversized diaper than anything?...maybe that's an alternate use. -Brian L.
